Abuja-Kaduna train derails

An Abuja-Kaduna train conveying passengers on Sunday derailed at the Jere station in Kaduna State about an hour after it departed from Kaduna at 8:05 a.m, while the derailment caused three carriages to go off the tracks.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakubu Mahmood who confirmed this in a statement said all passengers on a train were unhurt, adding that in swift response a team of engineers were assigned to the site to restore the affected locations

Penpushing further reports that Mahmood said all the passengers later arrived at their respective destinations safely after what he described as a minor derailment, and apologised for any inconveniences caused by the incident.

“All passengers on board the Kaduna-Rigasa to Idu-Abuja train arrived at their respective destinations safely. Meanwhile, a team of NRC engineers is already at the site to restore the affected locations’, he was quoted saying.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation hereby informs the general public, especially our valued passengers, that normal passenger train services between Kaduna-Rigasa and Idu-Abuja continue despite the minor derailment of our coach at Jere station this morning’, Mahmood said.

Penpushing also reports that the Director of Public Relations reaffirmed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC’s) commitment to passenger safety and comfort, stressing that the management valued passengers

‘Nigerian Railway Corporation Management regrets any inconveniences to our affected valued passengers. NRC wishes to assure our valued passengers of our efforts towards ensuring their safety and comfort always,” he said.
