35-year-old man kills 26- old years girlfriend over infidelity in Cross River State
A 35-year-old man Malime Ejor, has allegedly killed his girlfriend at a farm in Nwang Village, Ekajuk community of Ogoja local government area of Cross River State over alleged infidelity, sparking outrage among residents calling for justice.
Penpushing reports that source who pleaded anonymity said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, at about 0600hrs, adding that the suspect, allegedly attacked the 26 years Moshie Igu,
“We heard the commotion and noise and we rushed to the scene, but we were unable to prevent the situation because he was already using a machete on her’, a resident stated
Penpushing further reports that the resident said a heated argument broke out between the man and his lover over accusations of extramarital affairs, which escalated into violence, during which the suspect allegedly attacked her, leading to her death.
The resident explained that the community could not do anything, as it was impossible for them to hold the suspect, adding that after the youths caught him, he was later handed over to security operatives.
Penpushing also reports that the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer Sunday Eitokpah confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation has commenced and assured that justice would be served.
‘The suspect is currently in custody, and a full investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Upon receipt of the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene. The suspect was apprehended and rescued from an attempted mob action by angry youths. He is currently in police custody for his safety and ongoing investigation’, he said
‘The victim’s remains are yet to be deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary, Ogoja, as necessary arrangements are being concluded. Meanwhile, the case is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation”, Eitokpah stated.
