75 students abducted from school in Zamfara state freed

The 75 students and teachers kidnapped from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, hometown of Governor Bello Matawalle, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have regained freedom, 12 days after their abduction.

Penpushing reports that, the released victims were reported to have been received by Governor Bello Matawalle at the Government House in Gusau, Sunday evening, following their release in undisclosed circumstances.

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) also confirmed the release of the victims  on its facebook page that, but the details of the release of the students and the teachers remained sketchy as at the time of filing this report.

“The seventy-five students of Government Day Secondary School Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State abducted about two weeks ago regained freedom,” NTA posted on Facebook.

Penpushing further reports that,  it is recalled that, Governor Matawalle had ordered shut down of telecommunication networks, suspended weekly markets and banned the sale of fuel in jerry cans, all measures in support of the operation.

The Governor also declared that the state government would no longer negotiate with bandits, cancelling his policy of peaceful dialogue with the deadly criminals, emphasizing that, security forces would, instead, concentrate on flushing them out of Zamfara.
