
52-year-old woman arraigned for allegedly using 13 children to solicit for alms
A 52-year-old woman, Angela Nzewi, has been arraigned before Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, Anambra State, for allegedly using 13 children to solicit for alms.
Penpushing reports that the police prosecutor, Chinyere Okechukwu, told the court that the accused from Otolo Nnewi, committed the offence on December 21, 2024 at Nnewi, stressing that she did obtain 13 children for the purpose of soliciting for alms.
The police inspector, added that the offence contravened Section 33(1) of the Child Rights Law of Anambra State 2004, while the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when read to her at the courtroom
Penpushing further reports that the Chief Magistrate, U.E. Onochie, however, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with a surety in like sum and thereafter adjourned the case until March 19, 2025 for a hearing.
