Daniel expresses concern over insecurity in Nigeria, calls on politicians to do away with mischief politics

Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has expressed concern over insecurity situation in Nigeria, stressing that it is high time politicians do away with politics of mischief and unduly partisan

Penpushing reports that, Daniel express the worry when the National President of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria(FIBAN),Desmond Nwachukwu led his members on a courtesy call to him.

‘I retired from politics two years ago, I’m just coming back slowly and gradually, so I may not be too conversant with what is going on right now in the polity, but when you look at our country today, this is not the time to be unduly partisan’.

The former Governor admitted that there are lot of challenges in the country, pointing out that, since the birth of Nigeria as a nation, the togetherness of Nigerians have not being questioned as it is being experienced now

‘We have challenges, security challenges, never in the history of our country has our togetherness being questioned as we have now, so this is the time that all men of good will to come together and speak with one voice’, he emphasied.

Penpushing further reports that, Daniel using himself as a good example of embracing politics of unity, said his coming to support a party which was opposition to his administration as a governor speaks volume

‘And if you see me coming to support a party that probably was in opposition to my administration, it is because I’m a person, but the responsibility of the people is greater than individual interest, so what we all need to do is to drop the gauntlet and try for now to make sure that we support the government in power’, Daniel stressed.

‘There is a saying in international politics, that whenever there is war, people don’t talk politics, they talk survival. I’m not saying there is war in Nigeria but how do you define war? The number of deaths on our roads will soon surpass what happened in the civil war,  that is the reality that we have found ourselves’

‘This time you are on the road and you are not even sure that you will get to your destination. This is a little bit much more than war and because of that, all men of good will must come together and that is what I’m coming to preach’.

Penpushing also emphasized need to do away with infighting, pointing out that, there is hunger in the country, and people are angry, hence, the leadership should see people’s survival as paramount.

‘We should stop fighting ourselves, there is hunger in the land, people are angry, people are hungry, people’s survival is at stake, so let us stop fighting over things that are completely unnecessary’, he stated

The National President of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), earlier in his speech informed the former Governor of the establishment of the Broadcasting College, a project being embarked upon by the body.

Penpushing reports that, Nwachukwu explained that, the college affiliated to Crescent University, Abeokuta, is also situated in the town, and aimed to train and retrain members across the country.

The President disclosed that, in view of the fact that Daniel is a lover of education, making reference to his administration laudable efforts in adding value to educational sector, one of the lecture theater has being name after the former Governor.

Meanwhile, other notable leaders of the association in attendance include: Ibiyemi Ajadi, Gbenga Adebayo-Oladunni, Olufemi Omilani, Seun Awodele,Akinyemi Olatoye and Hellen Njoku
