22-year-old Afrofuji singer Destiny Boy, former backup dancer for Pasuma dies

A 22-year-old Nigerian Afrofuji star, Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, known for blending traditional Fuji sounds with contemporary music has been reported dead, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that death of Adesina who emerged as a teenage sensation, carving a niche for himself at a very young age was made known by Bolisco on social media, adding that the singer experienced severe symptoms and was said to have vomited blood before his death.

The statement by Bolisco explained that the youngster musician had been ill before his death, and following the sad development, Afropop singer Small Doctor reacted on his Instagram story, sharing a grieving emoji alongside a solemn song.

Penpushing further reports that videos circulating online showed the corpse of the artiste being transported in a vehicle and later arriving at his parents’ residence in Ayetoro, Ogun State, while as at the time of this report no official statement from his family or management to confirm the demise

The deceased rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji cover of “If” Davido’s hit song went viral, and recently announced the birth of his first child on his Instagram page in November 2024.

Penpushing also reports that he began his creative journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for veteran Fuji musician Pasuma, while that early exposure to the Fuji music scene helped shape his musical identity and stage presence before he transitioned fully into recording music.

The late musician gained national attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral on social media, earning him recognition and opening doors within the music industry.

Penpushing reports that following the success of the cover, he equally released several Fuji-inspired versions of popular songs by artistes such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, steadily expanding his fan base across Nigeria.

The late Destiny Boy later focused on original material, releasing songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey, however, as at the time of filing this report, cause of death remains unknown
