2023: Money used in purchasing forms enough to fund education, protesting students tell Nigerian politicians
The protesting Nigerian students under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), over the lingering strike by their lecturers, on Monday declared that the money politicians used to purchase election forms ahead of 2023 general elections could have being used to support education
Penpushing reports that, this observation was made known by the students in one of the placards displayed, during the protest held within the axis of the local and international wing of the airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The placard conspicuously displayed by one of the protesters reads, ’If you have money for election form, you can fund Education’, while others said, “No Work, No Pay is a Fascist Talk. Pay Our Lecturers” and “No Education, No Movement”
Penpushing further reports that, leadership of the students posited that part of the association strategies is to obstruct movements across major airports so that the members of the elite and the ruling class can be reminded of the plight of the university students.
The protesters were sighted singing and dancing in circles, while officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigerian Police in the state were seen on standby in one of the videos of the protest posted on twitter
Penpushing also reports that, the protest, however, turned blessings for the touts, within the airport axis as they took the advantage to help travelers carried their luggage at exorbitant fee, to avoid missing their flights
The findings showed that travellers were forced to engage their services to carry their loads, and that the money they generated while the protest lasted was equivalent to what they might make in one week.
Penpushing reports that, one of the touts, confirmed that the brisk business which he said if he has his way he would be prefer continuity of the protest, adding that in less than five hours he already made N45,000.
The tout disclosed that, for him to carry one bag the owner would pay N2,000, adding that carrying five bags, he would make N10,000, expressing joy over his gains, stressing that he prayed the protest should not end.
