$1.1 million fraud saga: Nigerian government commences process of Kyari’s extradition to America
The Nigerian Government has commenced moves to extradite a suspended and embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to face fraud charges in the United States of America.
Penpushing reports that, the Attorney-General of the Federation(AGF), Abubakar Malami had filed an extradition application at the Federal High Court in Abuja following a request by the Diplomatic of the United States of America(USA) Embassy in Abuja.
The Attorney-General explained that the request from the American Government is for the surrender of Kyari, who is a subject in a superseding three counts indictment, adding that the application was satisfied that the offences in respect of which Kyari’s surrender was sought were neither political nor trivial.
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that, the Attorney-General had earlier declared that, reasonable grounds were already established to proceed against the suspended police officer on the basis of the allegations against him.
The American Government had in July 2021 fingered the celebrated police officer as one of the conspirators in multi-billion dollar fraud perpetrated by Ramon Abass, popularly called Huspuppi, who is presently awaiting sentence by the American court, having pleaded guilty to the crime
Penpushing also reports that, ironically, while on suspension over his role in the Hushpuppi’s money laundering case, Kyari was fingered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) in a 25kg cocaine deal earlier this year.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) , and on February 22, 2022 obtained an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja to detain him.
