Yuletide firecracker causes fire outbreak in a restaurant in Abuja
A yuletide fire cracker thrown on a thatched roof of Cake Hut Restaurant in Wuse 2, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the new year celebration has caused a fire outbreak at the restaurant.
Penpushing reports that the Comptroller of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Fire Service Command, Amiola Adebayo, confirmed this to journalists adding that the service received a distress call in the early hours of Thursday around 12:25 a.m.
The Comptroller stated that firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene following the report, adding that the fire was successfully brought under control, with no casualties recorded.
‘The service received a distress call in the early hours of Thursday around 12:25 a.m. Our men were quickly mobilised to the scene, and I was personally there,” Adebayo said.
Penpushing further reports that he explained that preliminary investigations revealed the fire was caused by an object thrown from outside the premises during New Year celebrations, which landed on a thatched roof inside the restaurant.
The Comptroller stated that firefighters from both the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service worked together to contain the blaze, with support from the police, who helped to clear traffic to allow emergency vehicles access to the scene.
“With the combined efforts of the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, and with the police assisting to clear the road, we were able to put the fire under control by about 1:20am, Adebayo said.
