YOU CANNOT INVESTIGATE YOUR GOVERNOR ON BRIBERY ALLEGATION, COURT TELLS KANO ASSEMBLY LAWMAKERS
The judge declared further that, investigating criminal offence is the function of agencies under executive arms such as police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Commission (ICPC).
In view of this, he, therefore gave an order restraining the House from interview or inviting any person on the bribery allegation against Governor as published by the Daily Nigerian newspaper.
Penpushing reports that the Kano State Assembly Counsel, Mahmud Waziri, in reaction said if the House decide to appeal the judgment he will pursue it, as he represents their interest.
Similarly, Chairman of the 7-man committee constituted by the Kano State House of Assembly to investigate the alleged bribery, Bappa Dan’ Agundi, in his reaction to the judgment explained that the House would study the court judgment and take a stand.
His words “I will not comment on behalf of the House. The House will deliberate on the matter, take a decision and make it public.”
Penpushing reports that, National Coordinator of Lawyers for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria, Muhammad Zubair, filed a suit in Kano High Court, praying the court to determine the constitutional competence of the Assembly to investigate the allegation of $5million bribery against the Governor.
