Yoruba group, local government employees collaborate on council reform
The Yoruba Ko’Ya Leadership and Training Foundation (YKLTF), has collaborated with the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) towards supporting the National Assembly amendment clauses in the constitution.
Penpushing reports that, President of the Foundation, Otunba Deji Osibogun and Akogun Kola Onadipe(Secretary-General) respectively, explained that reason for the collaboration was because of the passion for reformation of the local government and its incorporated objectives
‘Yoruba Ko’Ya Leadership and Training Foundation-YKLTF, under Otunba Deji Osibogun as the President and Akogun Kola Onadipe as the Secretary General, has now officially collaborated with NULGE and many others, towards supporting the NASS Amendment Clauses in the Constitution’, the statement said.
Penpushing further reports the foundation appealed on need media to support the course, stressing that, it is part to victory for the poor masses, stressing that, the media would also be beneficiaries
The foundation explained that, as part of its passion for the realization of the move, on Tuesday March 22, 2022 joined the National Union of Local Government Employees(ULGE, to carry out continued sensitisation in each of the local government to create awareness.
Penpushing also reports that, the association disclosed that, each House of Assembly member in respective states, were served with appropriate official letter as respective painstaking requests, seeking for understanding on the a amended clauses as above, for resultant support, towards eventual passage of the bills when delivered from the National Assembly.
The foundation, however, noted that there has been a false propaganda been carried by unscrupulous people, suggesting that the Local Government Financial and Administrative Autonomy will create direct control of the local government under the Nigerian Government.
‘This is far from the truth…the way the State Government administer its allocation so shall the local government utilize such own allocation paid directly, for its development. And the propaganda that the federal government intend to grab local government lands from the back door as fulanisation agenda, is false, because this was rejected by the NASS under item 36 & 37 of the Amended list earlier published’
Penpushing reports that, the association, took time on Tuesday to hold meeting with like-minds as sensitization parley, with a resolution by the participants declaring that it was high time to ensure reality of the reform
The body pointed out that local government is the only panacea left for practical development of the people via socio-economic, education, cultural and infrastructural/political growth, stressing that, the councils remain closest to the people at the grassroot.
Penpushing further reports that, the statement disclosed that, similar sensitization visits will hold on Thursday March 24th 2022 in all the Northern State House of Assemblies with meeting scheduled with the lawmakers.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the association engaged journalists in media parley, at the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre to also sensitize the media practitioners, with a call to support the course
