XENOPHOBIC ATTACK: PLEASE DON’T EMBARK ON VIOLENCE PROTEST POLICE WARNS OYO STUDENTS
The Chairman of the students body , Asubiojo Olujuwon noted that attack on Nigerians in South Africa still persist without any serious or definite move by both South African and Nigerian Government to rescue Nigerians out of the devastating situation.
Penpushing further reports that, Olujuwon popularly called Marshal declared that the students cannot seat idle and watch as Nigerians in the diaspora are being exposed to harsh treatments and risk of their dear lives.
“Subject to continued xenophobic attacks, the leadership of NANS, Oyo State uses this moment to call on all Nigerian students in this State and in the neighborhood, civil liberty organisations, global sympathisers and all concerned fellows to join a MASS PROTEST which has been scheduled to hold on Thursday, 5th of September, 2019, by 8am prompt starting from Mokola Roundabout, Ibadan.”
“We shall be grieving in procession to the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan to express our sad concerns and awake the consciousness of Nigerian Government to rescue our dear fellows in South Africa, Nigerian students in our millions would troop out and join this mass action, as an injury to one is an injury to all.”
The outgoing National Senate President of the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), comrade Oke Wasiu Ayinde in his own remarks noted that the ordeal suffered by Nigerians and other Africans residing in South Africa in the hands of South Africans is condemnable, saying that it is totally an act of inhumanity by man towards man.
Penpushing also reports that, Oke pointed out that the killings and maiming have lingered for too long and have resulted in loss of promising lives and millions of property, adding that lacks should not be jealous of their achievements; rather, they should work in harmony to place the continent on a pedestal that can stand side by side with other continents.
The students leader popularly called Pattern however called on the Nigerian Government to take decisive actions as well as create a blanket solution to the menace as it has lingered for too long, stating that Nigerians in diaspora should ensure they are law-abiding and dissociate themselves from all forms of crimes, stressing that good image projection of the country should be their conscious aim, and they should also eschew any form of retaliation in reaction to the act to avoid further damages.
Penpushing reports that in swift response, Commissioner of Police, Sina Olukolu in a statement issued by the P Public Relations Officer of the Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said that ‘the attention of Police in Oyo State, has been drawn by credible sources that some aggrieved Nigerians have perfected plans to carry out coordinated attacks on South Africa economic interest in Nigeria including Shoprite etc, the faceless organizers are advice to desist from this planned dastardly act as it is an ill will blow no one any good.
“The police in Oyo State wishes to seize this opportunity to appeal to the aggrieved citizens for calm and allow the Government to use diplomatic means to resolve the log jam and also advise organizers of such protest not to allow it to degenerate to violence as social miscreant will capitalized on the opportunity not only to unleashed mayhem on the innocent citizen but, also to loot shops and destroy goods worth millions of naira, as well as inflicting injuries or even kill innocent citizens who will be the brunt of the mayhem.”
The Police boss called on parents and guardians to warn their children who may want to be part of such clandestinely planned protest to desist from such evil as it is inimical to the corporate interest and collective existence.
Penpushing also reports that, the command declared that it will not fold its arms and allow any individuals or groups to cause chaos or breakdown of law and order, calling on peace loving people of the state to go about their lawful business without any fear of molestation or threat from any groups or individuals.
The police boss said concerted efforts have been made to emplace effective security measures to respond adequately to any security threat from any quarters or groups who may bent on distrusting the relative peace being enjoyed by the law abiding good citizen of Oyo State.
