WOMEN PROTESTERS TAKE OVER OGUN GOVERNOR’S OFFICE OVER CONTROVERSIAL COMMISSIONERS LIST
The women who came with mats and cooking items caused a long traffic jam into the secretariat entrance, a development which forced the security operatives to change their minds, and eventually allowed the protesters.
Penpushing further reports that, the women in their hundreds thereafter moved to the House of Assembly, as their first point of call, declaring that they would not allow the lawmakers to screen the commissioner nominees scheduled to hold on Monday.
The Majority leader of the Assembly, Hon Victor Elemide addressed the protesters on behalf of the Speaker, Hon Kunle Oluomo who he said was not available, and promised that the assembly will look into their grievances.
Penpushing also reports that, the protesters insisted that, the issue of 35% women participation in the cabinet must be address before any screening takes place, else they would not leave the assembly complex.
The protesters adorned with customized T-Shirts, various handbills and placards, later moved to the Governor’s office and took over the premises, with a declaration that they would not leave until the Governor sees them and address the issues on ground.
Penpushing reports that, the women spread their mats in front of the Governor’s office and the road leading to the office where they sat, and prevented traffic flow within the axis, insisting that they would need to see the Governor face to face.
The Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Ogundele later came to address the protesters, explaining to them that her boss, Governor Dapo Abiodun was away to Ibadan, Oyo State Capital for official engagement, and appealed to them to exercise some level of patience.
The peaceful protest was religiously monitored by the police led by the Area Commander ACP, Musiliu Aliu, ensuring that the protest does not get violence, as he stationed his men in strategic positions within the protest area.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the protesters in their hundreds were offloading cooking utensils from their buses, and additional mats, with declaration that, if it takes them one week to see the Governor, they would occupied his office.
