WOMEN CONSORTIUM, MCARTHUR FOUNDATION ORGANISES WORKSHOP TO PROMOTE ACCOUNTABILITY ON HOME GROWN SCHOOL FEEDING
The Director of Programme, Morenike Omaiboje in her welcome address said the project was with the aim of improving school enrolment, improving child health and nutrition, increasing and encouraging local agricultural production, creating jobs and empowering women while improving family and state economy.
‘The program has also been noted to promote local agriculture as it utilises locally-sourced food. This shows that Government accepts its roles as a critical underlying factor promoting nutrition and shows a commitment on the part of the Ogun State Government’.
She further explained that overarching goal of this project is to ensure that Government’s main aim is met, which is to ensure that the children beneficiaries identified for the School Feeding Program are adequately fed.
The Director also stated that part of the consortium mandate is what is the training workshop, briefing and sharing experience, reports and lessons learnt on this project with strategic stakeholders.
She emphasized that, ’and because this involves children, members of the National Council of Child Rights Advocates of Nigeria (NACCRAN) and the Child Protection Network (CPN) are stakeholders in this, and so are all of you’.
Penpushing reports that, the Ogun State Coordinator of Child Protection Network (CPN),Kunle Sanni in his remark, noted that, the workshop and the project are laudable, and expressed appreciation to the Consortium and MarcArthur Foundation
He also noted that the organizers have ensured monitoring mechanism put in place, stating that with the development, it makes the work of Child Protection Network (CPN) easier, adding that the programme has been useful in making life more meaningful for the children, with many of them now in school.
Similarly, in his goodwill message, Chairman, Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), Ogun State, Adesegun Emmanuel Adesina commended Women Consortium of Nigeria(WOCON) and McArthur Foundation for good work carried out in various communities.
He also noted continuity of the work of late founder of the Consortium, and praised the team, assuring that as a body ‘we are ready to collaborate with any NGO that work in line that approved policy. We are ready and continued to collaborate with WOCON, in view of the fact of its authenticity’.
The founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji in his own remark, expressed satisfaction on the authenticity of the consortium, recalling that, the late founder, Olabisi Olateru-Olagbegi was committed and always proactive to the project.
He commended the team, the deceased left behind, and being working round the clock, in ensuring the project thrive till date, and also gave assurance that, Penpushing would continue rendering media support for both Women Consortium of Nigeria(WOCON) and McArthur Foundation.
