Women Advocates Research organizes stakeholders meeting on coronavirus response report
The Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) on Friday organized a one day interface meeting with government agencies policy makers in Ogun State on findings from coronavirus response report, held in Abeokuta.
Penpushing reports that, Executive Director of the Research, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi in her welcome speech explained that, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre(WARDC) is in partnership with innovation for Change/Africa Hub, aimed at engaging state level policy makers, Ministry Department and Agencies(MDA’s) and Inter Sectoral agencies of the Ogun State
The Director added that, this is also to establish outcome of the survey by sharing details of coronavirus response report and analysis from the social audit cracker tool, as well as to evaluate possible recommendation for improving Civil Society Organisations and Government relationship during health emergency
Penpushing further reports that, Akiyode-Afolabi said the policy brief provides information about government and social audit conducted by civil society organization in the country, which is a summary of the outcome of a citizens-led survey conducted in Lagos and Ogun States.
‘It provides information about Covid-19 funds and spending as well as data on the NCDC Covid-19 efforts. The policy brief also examines how public programs have been executed and the efforts to ensure transparency and accountability. It finally identifies the gaps in the execution of the government programs in responding to Covid-19’, she stated
Penpushing further reports that, the Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo in his speech said the meeting came at the appropriate time when governance assessment was being given priority by highly-exposed and educated electorate.
The Speaker pointed out that, in recent time there has been increasing focus on measuring performance, level of accountability, responsiveness and capacity of formal institutions, thus, Ogun state government has been consistently subjected to assessment at different times
‘The essence of such assessing is to ensure that government’s performance via deliverables is conducted with due regard for the common good of the people. I am also confident that this forum would provide a holistic evaluation of the effectiveness and otherwise of public officials or agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic’, he said
‘With due regards to assessing how they have performed to their full potential, provided value for money, instilled confidence in government and being responsive to the communities during the pandemic’, Oluomo emphasized
