Voice of ogun women group calls for speedy implementation of existing laws against

The Voice of Ogun Women ( VOW) a Non-Partisan, Gender-Based Interest Group, has called on need to fast track  and monitor the implementation of the Law against rape,  sexual defilement and sexual assaults enacted by the State Legislature contained  in Violence Against Persons Law of 2018

Penpushing reports that, the group comprising of indigenous women of Ogun either by birth or marriage made the appeal in letter presented to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly Hon. Kunle Oluomo during a courtesy visit, led by its Convener Deaconess Doyin Ogunbiyi at the assembly complex.

The women body in the letter noted that, “our nation has been awashed with the incidences of sexual violence in recent time which have resulted in avoidable loss of lives”, stressing that no perpetrator must escape accountability for his crimes.

Penpushing further reports, the body  called for an effective criminal justice system that frowned at any attempt to flout the law to  send a signal to the people involved in these heinous and inhuman acts that Ogun state is a no go area for such.

The women group while commending the noble strides by the assembly  said prompt and appropriate actions on the subject of rape and sexual abuse will in no small measure engrave the  names of the lawmakers  in the annals of history of Ogun State Legislative achievements.

Penpushing also reports that, the Speaker in his remarks applauded the group for the laudable advocacy work its doing for women in the state, saying there is a pay day for everything we do. .

The Speaker assured  that the Violence Against Persons Law that is already enacted in the State will be further adequately implemented by the House, disclosing that a committee has been set up, while in due course stakeholders meeting will come up to arrive at the appropriate punishment for rapists.

“Right now a committee has been set up and in due course there will be need for the House to organise a  stakeholders meeting to arrive at  the appropriate punishment for offenders of rape acceptable in Ogun State”,Oluomo stated
