Village head shoots sister over palm fruits

A village head of Ibagwa community in Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom, Friday Umoren, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom Police Command for shooting his 32-year-old sister, Unwana Inyang

Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer Timfon John confirmed the incident and arrest of the suspect in a statement on Tuesday adding that the incident occurred last Saturday at Ibagwa, a rural community.

The spokesperson, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the operatives received a report of an attempted murder from a man (name withheld) that the village head allegedly shot their sister in the head with a gun.

“Police responded to the scene, and the suspect, Umoren was arrested and taken into custody. A long, single-barreled gun believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from his possession’, she said.

Penpushing further reports that John explained that preliminary investigations suggested the incident was the result of a misunderstanding over palm fruits, adding that the victim was immediately taken to a hospital,

The Akwa Ibom Police Command Public Relations Officer in the statement stated that the victim as at the time of filing this report was receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
