VICE CHANCELLOTR TASK GRADUATING MEDICAL STUDENTS TO SUSTAIN UNIVERSITY QUALITY
The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) of the University of Ibadan, Professor K.O. Adebowale noted that the Medical School remains the flagship of the institution.
He emphasized that the University is the flagship of health care services in Nigeria, and encouraged all the newly graduands on need to play their roles in promoting and sustaining the Ibadan Medical School tradition which he said is devotion to knowledge and sound judgment.
Hear him’ as you are about to enter a profession that requires discipline, dedication, patience, diligent, hardworking, honesty, accuracy, excellent, integrity, nobility and selfless service to God and humanity, try to imbibe good attitude and good character, and always pay attention to them’.
He added that the newly graduands should distinguished themselves in their areas of specialisation as many of their predecessors has done, noting that they should not forget their Alma Mata, and always look back to give back to it.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that as a result of the University of Ibadan College of Medicine dedication in producing qualified graduates, the institution College of Medicine has been ranked among 400 top institutions in the world, stressing that 57% of University of Ibadan achievements comes from the Medical Science, ‘and this is an affirmation that the College of Medicine remain the flagship of the University’.
In his remark, the Provost of College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor E. Oluwabunmi Olopade said lack of funding is the major problem of medical education in Nigeria, noting that medical education is the bedrock for national health care.
“Education is an important project which everyone must have interest in, the State of Education in this country must be of concern to everyone, issues relating to standard of education in Nigeria should be well treated among the federal government, the university authorities, and all concern stakeholders’.
“The induction ceremony of the College of Medicine is one of the event which marks the struggle within the role of an ivory tower to acquired knowledge and skills, we are proud of the quality of our product because our vision is to expand the frontiers of knowledge and provision of excellent conditions for learning research and produce graduates who are worthy in character and sound education.
Other notable dignitaries at the event include Chairman Oyo State Nigeria Medical Association(NMA) Dr. S. Sodipo, Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. T.A.B. Sanusi, Professor A.O.G. Adeuja, Secretary to the College, Dr. Ikeoluwapo O. Moody, Financial Controller, Mrs. Oluwafolakemi A. Ajayi, Medical Liberian, Dr. Josephine Igbeka, President of the ICOMAA worldwide Dr. Abib Olamitoye, and all the Deans of the College of Medicine and Sub Deans among others.
