University of lagos govering council unseats vice chancellor

The University of Lagos(UNILAG)  Governing council has removed the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof  Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, following outcome of the council meeting held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission(NUC), Abuja.

Penpushing reports that, the removed Vice Chancellor was accused of financial impropriety and gross misconduct, and those in attendance at the meeting were eleven council members,and Vice Chancellor.

The Chairman of the governing council, Wale Babalakin confirmed the development in a statement by his media adviser, Mikail  Mumuni, as source also disclosed that, voted for the removal of Ogundipe.

Penpushing further reports that, Mumuni, however, declined further comments, explaining that  only the registrar of the university can provide details of the development, but it recalled by Penpushing that, conflict between the university’s governing council and the management reached a head in March when its week-long 2020 convocation was abruptly cancelled just before it started.

The Nigerian Universities regulatory body, National Universities Commission (NUC)  ordered the cancellation  in response to a directive by the Minister of Education, majority  Adamu Adamu  in response to a letter written to the Vice-Chancellor by the council chairman, accusing Ogundipe of failing to share important details about the ceremony with the council.
