United Kingdom government keeps mum on arrest, detention, release of Peter Obi
The United Kingdom Government has kept mute on reason behind the arrest, detention and subsequent release of Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) by the immigration officials at Heathrow Airport in London last week.
Penpushing reports that a leading Nigerian online newspapers Premium Times had written to the authorities to provide details on the ordeal of Obi, but in a reply, the United Kingdom Government declared that said they do not comment on individual’s cases
The authorities in a short response on Thursday, through the Home Office, Senior Communications Officer – Newsdesk Communications Directorate, Chloe Newman declined providing adequate details emphasizing that it was an individual case that the authorities won’t comment on
The Head of Obi-Datti Media, Diran Onifade it is recalled in a statement on Wednesday said Obi was detained in London by United Kingdom (UK) immigration officials over alleged impersonation, but was silence on details of the arrest and subsequent release before returning to Nigeria.
Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report no details of how he was released, the conditions upon which he was released, the current status of the case against him and other related issues, while it not yet clear if Obi was deported and if he still possesses a valid United Kingdom(UK) access visa .
