Two killed as bomb explodes in market
A bomb exploded at the International Market in Umuna, a community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, killing two people and many reportedly sustained injuries from the explosion while many businesses closed shops abruptly.
Penpushing reports that the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye, an assistant superintendent of police confirmed the development on Wednesday to journalists adding that some hoodlums detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (EIDs) at the market.
The police spokesperson explained that the two people killed in the explosion were among the hoodlums who detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices (EIDs), adding that the command has deployed anti-bomb operatives to the scene.
Penpushing further reports that Okoye stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has asked residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities in the area to the police for action, stressing that there was no cause for alarm.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been blamed for some deadly attacks in the South-east which has been plagued by insecurity for some years now, but on the Tuesday incident no group claimed responsibility for the attack.
