A fatal road accident which occurred and involved a minibus in at Orie Emene, along Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway, Enugu State, at about 7pm on Friday has claimed lives of three passengers when a truck laden with laterite collided with the minibus.
Penpushing reports that en route to the Emene Area from Old Park Enugu was reported to have stopped along the road for passengers to alight, when the truck crossed a railway line before hitting the minibus in the area.
The source who was a witness explained that the truck wasn’t speeding, and there was no brake failure, adding that following the crash the police have arrested the truck driver, but expressed fears that the police might compromise.
‘The truck wasn’t speeding, and there was no brake failure. The driver must be charged with manslaughter or even first-degree murder. Those three lives lost, along with the two still clinging to life, demand justice’, the witness said.
Penpushing further reports that another source, however, claimed that a woman and her child sustained injuries in the accident, and when the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State, Frank Agbakoba, was contacted he confirmed the development.
The Sector Commanded as at the time of filing this report said he could not confirm the casualty figure explaining that police operatives had already intervened before officials of the road safety corps arrived at the accident scene
Penpushing also reports that Agbakoba who affirmed the crash, however, stated that the police have the details, adding that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) may need to get the details from the police authorities
