A graduate of accountancy, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Ogechi Ezekiel, said to be awaiting National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) call-up was on Tuesday killed when she was knocked down by a truck while coming out of the polytechnic.
Penpushing reports that the victim was said to have graduated with a distinction and had gone to the institution to complete her clearance ahead of her mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, when she met her untimely death along Aba-Owerri Road in Abia State.
The sources said the victim has been offered a scholarship by a yet-to-identified organisation to do a master’s degree programme, having graduated with distinction before the sad accident, lamenting that graduate was hit by a tricycle and pushed her to the speeding truck
Penpushing further reports that sources added that the tricycle rider fled the scene immediately after the incident, stressing that some aggrieved students of the institution attempted to set the truck ablaze but were resisted by security agencies who arrived at the scene to cordon off the area.
The Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka, when contacted on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of the truck driver, adding that as at the time of filing this report the suspect was in police custody and that investigation has commenced
Penpushing also reports that Nigerians who completed their Bachelor’s degree programme or a Higher National Diploma are legally required to undergo a mandatory 12-month National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
