Tripod Media plans all-inclusive 50th anniversary of Ogun state’s creation

Tripod Media on Tuesday launched a movement in preparatory for Ogun State golden jubilee celebration tagged, ‘50-Day Challenge’, designed to be inclusive and participatory of everyone who lives, works or benefits from the state since its creation.
Penpushing reports that Chief Executive Officer of the media outfit, Dare Adedotun unveiled this at a press conference held at the EmFelix Event and Conference Centre, beside Chrisland University, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta
The company boss explained that programme was intentionally designed and urged residents, workers, entrepreneurs and beneficiaries of the state, regardless of origin, to actively identify with the celebration of the state 50 years of existence.
Penpushing further reports that Adedotun, an indigene of Ogun State, said the celebration was not limited to natives alone, assuring that anyone who resides in the state, draws a salary from it, runs a business, organises events or earns a livelihood within Ogun State has a stake in its progress.
The Chief Executive Officer added that the idea behind the challenge was to discourage indifference and encourage shared responsibility for the state’s development, emphasing that the programme is conceived to support and complement the state government’s activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ogun State created in 1976.
“If someone says it is not my business because I am not from Ogun State, but you live here, you work here, you draw salaries here or you run your business here, then Ogun State is your business. This event is for you.”
Penpushing also reports that he added that the initiative is a citizen-driven effort aimed at projecting the image of the state and documenting its remarkable journey over the past five decades.
The Tripod Media boss described Ogun State as a land of historic firsts and landmark achievements, noting that the state has the highest number of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, with close to 40 institutions.
Penpushing reports that he equally highlighted that Ogun State is home to Nigeria’s first woman to drive a car, the late Chief (Mrs) Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti, the first church in the country, the first Bible preserved at the Ake Palace, and the first hospital in Nigeria located in Abeokuta.
The Chief Executive Officer said Ogun State’s contributions span education, culture, journalism, healthcare, agriculture and industry, stressing that the state’s heritage in Adire, Ofada rice, tourism sites such as Olumo Rock, and its industrial corridor along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway deserve global visibility.
Penpushing further reports that Adedotun explained that the 50-Day Challenge, which runs from December 16, 2025 to February 3, 2026, will feature daily 50-minute sessions showcasing documentaries, historical narratives and personal stories of individuals who have lived, worked or been shaped by Ogun State.
The broadcast journalist assured that the programme would be transmitted through various media and digital platforms to reach audiences within Nigeria and across the world, adding that eminent personalities from within and outside the country are expected to participate physically and virtually.
Penpushing also reports that the personalities which include Prof Wole Soyinka will share how Ogun State influenced their lives and careers, while offering insights on how the state can be further developed in the next 50 years.
The Chief Executive Officer pointed out that young people are a major focus of the initiative, stating that students at primary, secondary and tertiary levels will be engaged through educational and creative platforms aimed at teaching history, civic responsibility and leadership.
Penpushing reports that he said understanding what happened in 1976 and the years after will help the younger generation prepare to build a better Ogun State for the future, adding that the programme would also celebrate talents, brands and creatives from Ogun State, while showcasing the state’s economic, cultural and intellectual assets in a structured and sustained manner.
The company boss said the celebration will culminate in a symbolic walk to Oke-Mosan, the seat of power in Ogun State, to represent unity among the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government and to reinforce the idea that governance and development are collective responsibilities.
Penpushing further reports that Adedotun emphasised that the initiative is not driven by personal interest or political patronage, explaining that members of the organising team were selected based on their connection to Ogun State, whether by birth, residence, work or contribution to the state’s economy.
The initiator, therefore appealed to media organisations and stakeholders to collaborate in projecting a positive and balanced narrative of Ogun State to the world,
“You cannot light a candle and put it under a bushel. We must tell the world who we are, where we come from and what we have achieved’, Adedotun stressed.
