TRADITIONAL RULER DEMANDS YORUBA CULTURE IN EDUCATION CURRICULUM
The Royal father recalled the values inherent in the teachings of Yoruba language through the various literature books written by authors like D.O. Fagunwa, J.F Odunjo and Olabintan among legions of authors and writers.
Penpushing further reports that, the pupils and teachers of the school trooped out to join their counterparts across the nation to celebrate culture and tradition of Nigeria, and all dressed in traditional stores and held a carnival like parade round the town.
The pupils at the Palace of Towulade, performed a mini dance drama which depicted the values inherent in the culture and traditions of their parents, while the traditional ruler commended the troupe and charged the children to hold the culture and tradition of their origin and particularly not lose their mother tongue.
“To you as Yoruba speaking children, you should preserve the culture and heritage of your pedigree by ensuring you learn, understand and speak your mother tongue. The values of honesty, diligence, cleanliness, hardwork and respect for elders are the forebears of Omoluabi which, for whatever reason should not be lost” Oba Ogunleye charged.
Penpushing also reports that, the monarch paid glowing tributes to Yoruba legendary authors like D.O Fagunwa, J.F. Odunjo and Professor Olabintan, among many whose literary works molded the characters of past generations and therefore implored all stakeholders in education to encourage comprehensive training for the young generation in the values of their home culture and traditions.
