Tinubu suspends controversial Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Emefiele
The Nigeria’s President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has suspended the controversial Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Godwin Emefiele from office with immediate effect.
Penpushing reports that the suspension order was contained in a statement made available by Willie Bassey Director, Information on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation issue Friday evening in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory(FCT).
The statement added that the order was sequel to the ongoing investigation of Emefiele’s office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy of the country.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect. This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy’, the statement reads.
Penpushing further reports that the Secretary to the Federal Government in the statement emphasised that Emefiele has equally been directed to as a matter of urgency to handover affairs of the apex bank to the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms” the statement declared.
