Tinubu directs suspension of cashless payment at airports
The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has ordered suspension of the cashless payment system recently introduced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and directed the authorities to go back to the drawing board.
Penpushing reports that the Minister of Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo made this known on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), held at the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Minister disclosed that the President directed him to go back to the drawing board, and suspend the present system to perfect a system that will work perfectly without putting unnecessary pressure on citizens.
Penpushing further reports that Keyamo added that the president directed that a decision should be taken quickly even if it means involving the private sector., stressing that there will be a hybrid system for now whereby those who already possess cards will be allowed to use it while those who prefer cash will be allowed to do so.

Penpushing also reports that the minister said the president’s decision is to remove gridlock and not because he is unhappy with the cashless system, explaining that further briefing will be made after conferring with Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) cashless system it would be recalled commenced at the Lagos and Abuja airports this week but has led to long queues and delays for travellers going to the airport.
