Three houses burnt as two residents sustain injuries in tanker fire

A tanker fire along the Ayetoro-Abeokuta road in Abeokuta North Area of Ogun State on Friday evening consumed three houses, with two persons sustaining burns and currently on admission in hospital in the town.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE),Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the incident late night on Friday, stating that  an  eye witness account, has it that the tanker was inbound Rounder/Mile 2- Alamala axis when the driver sensed he needed to gauge one of the rear tyres..

‘Unfortunately, due to the bad portion of the road he forgot that where the tanker was parked before he alighted from the vehicle was well leveled and in the process the tanker fell on its side, due also to the fact that it was not well hooked’,Akinbiyi said…

The Agency spokesman said, no life was lost in the incident but two people were injured with burns and have been taken to an unidentified hospital for treatment, adding that three houses were burnt in the inferno..

‘However, about 3 houses were burnt in the inferno with TRACE, Federal and the State Fire Service helping out in the rescue operation. TRACE Corps is nevertheless appealing to tanker drivers always conduct a thorough maintenance check on their vehicle before setting out on any journey and also ensure it is well hooked with the head to avoid this type of incidence’,Akinbiyi emphasised…
