Suspected notorious kidnapper, Wakili, two sons remanded in prison

The Chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Iyakangu Ibadan on Tuesday ordered the remand of a controversial alleged kidnappers, Iskilu Wakili and two of his sons at the correctional facility following six count charges against them.
Penpushing reports that, Wakili and his sons which include: Abu, (45) and Samaila(27)as well as another accused Aliyu Manu(20) were arraigned by the police with six counts of conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery.
The accused were alleged by residents of Ibarapa in Oyo State to be behind series of kidnappings and killings in the area, and Wakili was arrested by men of Odua Peoples Congress(OPC) on March 7,2021
Penpushing further reports that the prosecution counsel, Adewale Amos, as assistant superintendent of police told the court that the accused persons allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.
The prosecutor said Wakili and others on October. 20, 2015, caused the death of 32 year old Police Corporal, Akinwale Akande while performing his lawful duty,adding that in similar vein, Wakili and others on August. 15, 2020, at about 4 p.m. in Idi – Emi, Oyo State, kidnapped a woman.
Penpushing also reports that, the prosecuting officer alleged that the suspects while armed with cutlasses and axe robbed the woman of N100, 000, adding that the. offence contravened the provisions of sections 316, 324 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000.
The prosecutor said the offence also contravened the provisions of sections 3, 6, and punishable under section 4 (2) of the Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law 2016 and Section 6b of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act. Cap RII, Vol.14, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and section (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms ( Special Provisions)
Penpushing further reports that, the Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Idowu, during the arraignment turned down the plea of the suspects for want of jurisdiction, and ordered to be remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo State.
The Magistrate ordered the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), and thereafter adjourned the matter until May 17 for mention.
