Suspected alleged notorious cultist shot dead in gun duel with the Police
An alleged notorious murder suspect and said to be a cult leader, Owolabi Oludipe,popularly called ‘Somori’ has been shot while he and his gang engaged police from Odogbolu division in gun battle.
Penpushing reports that, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this on Monday to journalists, adding that the deceased had been on police wanted list for long time
“The suspect who had been on the wanted list of the Command was sighted at Ita-Ado area of Odogbolu where he and his fellow Aiye cult group were planning another attack in the Community, and a distress call was made to the DPO Odogbolu division, who mobilized his men and moved to the scene”, Oyeyemi said.
The police spokesman said on seeing the policemen, the gang engaged them in a shoot out, consequence upon which their leader “Somori” was shot and injured; while others escaped into the bush with their operational weapons,adding that the shot suspect was quickly taken to hospital, but died while receiving treatment.
“The deceased had been on wanted list of the Command in connection with killings of one Runsewe Segun a civil defense officer who was murdered in cold blood on the 14th of November 2020 and one Sunday Kayode Adegbuyi who was also killed on the 16th of February 2020. He was also responsible for the killing of a rival Eiye cult group leader by name Shoyombo Sanyaolu Fakoya on the 11th of November 2020 during a supremacy battle between the two groups, Oyeyemi stated.
The statement said he confessed to all the killings on the hospital bed before he gave up the ghost, adding that recovered from him are assorted charms which he wore all over his body, two live cartridges and a mobile phone.
The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun praised his men for their gallantry display and ordered that efforts should be intensified to apprehend the rest of the gang members,and also directed 24 hours surveillance of the town and its environs in order to checkmate the activities of hoodlums in the area.
Penpushing further reports that, the police boss reiterated that the battle against cultists in the State will be a continuous exercise until cultism and other vices are stamped out in all parts of the State.
