Student maltreatment at Deeper Life College: Principal suspended

The Principal of Deeper Life High School, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State has been suspended following allegation of maltreatment of a junior student of the college who was also  said to have been sexually molested by some senior students.

Penpushing reports, suspension of the Principal followed a complaint raised by mother of the victim, Deborah Okezie, who posted a video on Facebook crying out  that her 11-year-old son, a JSS1 student of  the school was sexually molested by his seniors when her son was switched from his hostel to another hostel filled with senior students.

The woman who was seen in the video showing the weak son, said to have also lost weight due to the maltreatment alleged that her son was frequently starved and beaten up by the senior students.

“They will remove his boxer and push their legs and hands into his anus. Look at a child I sent to school, he came back with a broken anus,” she lamented in the video which had gone viral both on facebook, twitter and instagram.

Penpushing further reports that, the school management in reaction to the allegation said that they were investigating the allegation, and assured that any of the staff and student found wanting and culpable will not be spared.

“We want to assure the general public that investigations into the case have commenced and no culprit, whether staff or student, will be spared if found culpable. As an interim measure and to underscore the seriousness we attach to higher superintending values, the school principal has been suspended summarily even as further investigations continue,” the school said.
