STREET URCHINS ATTACK CUSTOMS TO PREVENT ARREST OF SMUGGLER

The attackers also threatened to burn down the customs vehicles should they insist on arresting the smuggler’s rice-laden Volvo vehicle, a development which caused serious anxiety among residents and passers-by, while vehicular movements was brought to a halt between the popular Lafenwa market and Ago-Ika axis of the metropolis.

The account also has that apprehension which followed, heightened following the suspicion that the arms bearing Customs officials who had already taken positions could repel the mob by opening fire at them.

When contacted, the Customs’ Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Abdulahi Maiwada confirmed the development and expressed dismay that some members of the public could support the smugglers in such a manner.

The Customs image maker however, appealed to members of the public to endeavour at educating their people over the damages being done to the nation’s economy by supporting smuggling activities.
