Stakeholders converge on Abeokuta to strengthen child survival initiative

The State Social Mobilization and Technical Committee (SSOMTEC) has organized a stakeholders meeting aimed to strengthen child survival and development initiatives, as well as address pressing health challenges and promote unity among participants.
Penpushing reports that the meeting was held at the Press Centre of the Ogun State Ministry of Information, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, a platform where stakeholders across various sectors made valid contributions which focused on child survival
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Adesina in his speech expressed his delight in seeing dedicated individuals gathered to enhance child survival and development in the state.
Penpushing further reports that Adesina, disclosed that the Ministry has been working closely with the UNICEF Lagos Field Office to disseminate vital information and ensure that the message of child survival, development, and protection reaches every corner of the state.
‘The committee’s core responsibilities include mobilizing efforts for specific interventions aimed at child survival, development, and protection. The health education unit of the Primary Healthcare Board will sensitize members on rumors, fake news, and vaccine hesitancy, while a member of the Health Promotion Unit will lead a discussion on the value of Insecticide Treated Nets’, he stated.
Penpushing further reports that he emphasized the importance of collective efforts to bridge gaps, dispel myths, and promote essential family practices and called on the committee to support the remaining immunization activities for the year.
The Programme Director, Alhaja Kemi Ewedairo-Yusuf, in her remarks at the well-attended meeting emphasized the importance of collective dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every child in Ogun State.
‘Share experiences and lessons learned, encourage active participation and sharing of experiences related to the discussed issues, make solution-oriented contributions, critically examine each issue and provide solution-oriented contributions’, she told participants.
Penpushing also reports that the Programme Director encouraged stakeholders to compile and share feedback, with the contributions to be forwarded to the office of the Social and Behavioural Change, UNICEF Lagos Field Office.
The veteran journalist emphasized that their goal is not only to disseminate information but also to inspire action and foster behavioral change within their communities, just as she expressed confidence that through their collaborative efforts, they can bridge gaps, dispel myths, and promote essential practices vital for the survival and development of children in the State.

Penpushing reports that the participants representing government agencies, health organizations, faith-based groups, and media outlets, were united in their quest to improve the lives of children in Ogun state.
The meeting objectives include strengthening child survival programs, reinforce the committee’s role in supporting child survival, development, and protection programs, addressing misinformation and vaccine.
Penpushing further reports that these also include to educate members on the impact of rumors, fake news, and vaccine hesitancy, and enhance their ability to counter misinformation, promoting proper use of insecticide-treated nets strategize against malaria.
