Speculation of coronavirus infections causes panic at University of Lagos
The authorities of University of Lagos (UNILAG) have commenced intensive and compulsory use of facemasks by its students and staff, following speculation of unidentified students reported to have contracted coronavirus.
Penpushing reports that, the speculation is said to be causing panic within the Akoka campus of the university on Tuesday as sources said one of the victims was reported to be a female Law student
The sources disclosed that, following this unconfirmed report, and in a proactive measure, Head of Departments and Deans of Faculties have been moving round classrooms to ensure compliance with the use of nose masks and sanitisers.
Penpushing further reports that, the Deans have declared that any of the students and staff who failed to comply with the directive of coronavirus protocols risked being sent out of the university campus.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, as at the time of filing this report was yet to make categorical statement on the development, but was quoted saying that the institution’s management was in a meeting over the matter, and would soon speak on it.
Penpushing also reports that, the source in the institution said to be a classmate to the infected female student said she was taken to the counselling unit and thereafter to an isolation centre as at the time of this report
