Southwest African Democratic Congress rejects alleged suspension of Ogun State Chairman
The South-West leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports of the alleged suspension of the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Otunba Femi Soluade describing the move as unconstitutional, invalid and without effect.
Penpushing reports that the South-West Coordinator of the party, Rahman Owokoniran in reaction to the purported suspension of Soluade over allegation of disrupting declaration of governorship aspirant on Saturday declared that the purported suspension contravenes the party’s constitution
The statement emphasized that those behind the act and actions were a group of unauthorized individuals, stressing that any attempt by individuals or groups to unilaterally suspend a sitting state chairman without due process contravenes the party’s constitution and democratic norms.
Penpushing further reports that Owokoniran declared that the action did not follow laid-down constitutional procedures of the party and therefore cannot stand, emphasizing that the leadership maintained that only properly constituted organs of the party, acting in line with its constitution and with necessary approvals, can take disciplinary decisions against elected officials.
The zonal leadership warned that any attempt by individuals or groups to unilaterally suspend a sitting state chairman without due process contravenes the party’s constitution and democratic norms.
Penpushing also reports that Owokoniran stated that the South-West leadership declared that the current Ogun State leadership under Soluade remains valid and duly recognized by the party structure.
The statement urged members of the public and party faithful to disregard the alleged suspension notice, insisting that it was issued by persons without the legal authority or locus to take such action on behalf of the party.
Penpushing reports that the leadership reiterated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is built on discipline, internal democracy, and respect for institutional processes, pointing out that it would resist attempts by what it termed political merchants and transactional politicians to undermine party structures.
‘Party members across the South-West were urged to remain focused and committed as the party prepares its strategy towards the 2027 general elections and its national reform agenda’, the statement stated.
Penpushing further reports that the statement which was signed by National Director of Communication and Programmes of the party, Babatunde Oke emphasized the need for unity and adherence to party constitution.
The allegedly suspended chairman of the party, while reacting described the development as unfortunate, alleging that certain individuals were attempting to destabilize the party by misleading local government officials and coercing them into signing documents purportedly linked to the suspension move.
Penpushing also reports that Soluade questioned the legitimacy of those behind the alleged action, describing the process as illegal, null and void, and incapable of standing constitutional or legal scrutiny.
