Some upgraded traditional rulers in Ogun state are political agents, says Alani Bankole
A High Chief in Egbaland, Chief Alani Bankole has declared that many of the upgraded traditional rulers in Ogun State by the immediate past administration of former Governor, Ibikunle Amosun are political agents.
Penpushing reports that Bankole made the declaration during a media chat at his Oloke-Onikolobo private residence in Abeokuta, on Thursday ahead of his 80th birthday ceremony, stressing their sudden emergence was criminal
The known fearless Bankole and father of former Speaker House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole emphasized that the said traditional rulers are better described land grabbers and village heads
‘I was joking with a friend, all these Obas you said you are creating, you are only creating land grabbers and their no land to grab again, you will take them to court and they would lose, they have no power over anybody’s land, they are glorified Baales’, he said,
‘I don’t know the number of Obas we have because I am not involved, if you have been visiting or witnessing their installations you will not see me there, I don’t attend it even in the palace, I don’t go there and I have told anybody that cares that it is nonsense’,Bankole added
‘It doesn’t help us because it must help us to do some certain things, what our fore fathers agreed is the when a place becomes so big, more than a village, like Ifo, Ifo was a small town, was a rail way town and then they now upgrade it to fourth class Oba but a situation where the last Governor sat down and appointed 75 Obas in one day on the eve of his departure and you want me to respect that Oba, they are not Obas, they are political agents’, he declared .
Penpushing also reports Bankole, who is a frontline kingmaker in Egbaland pointed out that there are some so-called traditional rulers who govern over a village of 20 households, querying that how does such people be regarded as authentic royal fathers
‘There are some Obas who govern over a village of 20 households, there very many of them like that, how do you call that one Oba, if the politicians have decided to bastardise tradition in this country, it is there business and it won’t work and it is not working and that is why we have a lot of them being involved in all sorts of criminal activities’,Bankole emphaised.
