Socio-Political Group “The Alternative Movement” charges electorates to collect Permanent Voter Cards ahead of 2027 poll

A socio-political group “The Alternative Movement” has encouraged residents of Ogun State who are qualified to vote to claim their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Penpushing reports that South-West Chairman of the movement Rev. Olusola Salau made the call in Atan, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state emphasisng need for them to be more politically active and take control of their future through the ballot box.

The Chairman explained that the movement was intensifying grassroots mobilisation across Ogun State, adding that, the urge became necessary following a recent alarm raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that over one million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected

Penpushing further reports that he stated that the movement, is worried about the trend that points to growing political apathy, especially among the youths and equally tasked electorates fully participate in the electoral process.

The movement boss in an interview with journalists stressed that active citizen participation in the coming election is important in addressing the leadership crisis in Nigeria, hence, the body is building a voting community.

‘We’re building a voting community, a people-powered movement beyond political parties. We have all seen that we have over 200 million population, we have over one million voter cards unclaimed’, he said.

‘INEC has complained that people are not coming to collect their PVCs. Even those who have them don’t vote. How can we expect better governance when we stay out of the process? We are telling people to go and vote on the day of election and decide on the leader that they want’, Salau added.

Penpushing also reports that he pointed out that true change can only come when citizens move from complaining to acting, by getting involved in choosing who leads them, just as another member of the group, Olamide Immanuel, said the campaign is part of a broader effort to revive democratic participation in the state.

“We are going from town to town. Atan is just one of many communities we’ll reach. We’re encouraging people to see that voting is not optional, it’s their power’, Immanuel emphasized
