SOCIAL MEDIA IS BECOMING MALICIOUS PLATFORM FOR FAKE JOURNALISTS-GOVERNOR ABIODUN
“It will be uncharitable not to acknowledge the fact that much as much as the social media has postive contributions to the dissemination of information it has also become an easy tool in the hands of some unscrupulous elements for Malicious and deliberate mis- information’, he said.
“This has prompted various reactions from different quarters, with some even calling for death penalty for people who are found guilty of what has now become popularly referred to as the hate speech”, the Governor stated
“It is therefore important that as veterans you do not only keep a abreast of the developments in the field of journalism and that you also play your role as elders you should be by monitoring the activities of other professionals, this will go a long way of repositioning the pen pushing profession as truly the first estate of the realm in the day system.
“It is therefore imperative that journalist as professionals should always be on guard against forces that seeks to take advantage of the formidable power of the profession for their selfish ends”, the Governor emphasized.
Penpushing further reports that, the guest lecturer at the event, Aremo Olusegun Osoba,who was a former Governor of Ogun State , called on present crops of journalists to be more dedicated and passionate, adding that that was the only means to better their career and add value to the profession.
The Veteran Journalists who compared journalists of the old days with the present practitioners affirmed that the former were more committed than the latter, emphasizing that, ’journalists of those days are dedicated, passionate and ready to work.
The former governor also urged journalists to be internet-literate, adding that, modern days journalism depends on all of us knowing the importance of technology. “It is because the younger ones are so lazy, the instrument in your hands are so flexible to work around”.
Penpushing also reports that Osoba, urged Newspapers Publishers to desist from newspaper selling and subscribe to E-vendor, which allows readers to read newspapers online, stressing that, “newspapers circulation around the world today is dead. The modern day idea is that the Publishers should subscribe to E-vendor, which readers will also subscribe to online, stressing, “No one is ready again to put their money on purchase of newspapers again,” .
Penpushing also reports that, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedotun Gbadebo, in his remarks urged journalists to keep on the ability to inform, educate and entertain their readers, stressing that, “to be a journalists is not for drop-outs but for those who are educated and also passionate about it”
The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olukunle Oluomo and Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, were induced as Fellow of League of Veteran Journalist and Grand Patron, League of Veteran Journalist, Southwest zone respectively.
