Shasa market clash: We have put measures in place to avert further clash – Babaloja General Oyo State

The Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh has disclosed that measures have been put in place to avert further clashes between traders across all markets in the state.

Penpushing reports that Jimoh in an exclusive interview over the weekend noted that Shasa incident wouldn’t have happened if there was love and understanding between traders within the market.

The popular Shasha Market, Ibadan which is reputed for cheap raw food brought from northern Nigeria was a ghost of itself last week Thursday as traders, workers and other stakeholders deserted the once bubbling raw food market for fear of being attacked by irate youths from both Hausa and Yoruba communities when a Yoruba man was said to have been attacked with charms by an Hausa man which later resulted in his death.

Penpushing further reports that, Jimoh, said all the Babalojas across the state have been summoned to a meeting to discuss how to averted clashes between traders in markets across the state and to ensure a peaceful coexistence among themselves.

“We have warned and told all the Babalojas in our markets to talk to their people on the needs to tolerate and accommodate each other in their various markets irrespective of their tribe or ethnicity”.

Penpushing also reports that speaking on calls for the relocation of Shasa market by some residents, Jimoh said that government can relocate the market if there is a genuine reason for the relocation.

The Babaloja General however thanked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde over prompt response towards handling of the clash, calling on victims and residents of the market to calm down, and allowed government to address their demands.
