SEPTUAGENARIAN WOMAN KILLED IN EKITI, CORPSE DUMP IN RIVER
“After his apprehension much later, people in the area descended on him, and was almost lynched but the timely arrival of the police saved his situation. The police later rescued and took him away to their station, apparently to save him from being killed”, the witness said.
Penpushing also gathered from, another witness that the suspect was ‘youngman’, believed to be in his early 20’s and said to have been caught in the act in the river where he killed woman and given a hot chase by the people to effect his apprehension
“He was running towards the left side of the river and the people alongside policemen who had earlier been alerted, went after him before he was apprehended at the other end of the river”, and eyewitness said.
Some of the witnesses said that the old woman may have been a victim of ritualists, in view of the manner she was murdered on the river bank, and the unusual colour of the dress found on her.
Penpushing reports that as at the time of filing this report, men of the Ekiti State Fire Service arrived the scene and removed the corpse for onward deposit in the mortuary, just as the incident caused heavy traffic around the area with commuters taking alternative route in order to meet up with their various engagements.
When contacted, Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Caleb Ikechukwu said he would have to first obtain detailed information about the incident from the Ologede Police Division before passing comments.
