
Scavenger dies in twin explosion in Lagos community
Twin explosions, suspected to be from grenades, occurred at a scavenging site in Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba community, Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, killing one person and injured about eight others.
Penpushing reports that a witness, identified as Jegede Taiwo, said the first explosion occurred around 12pm killing a scavenger who was trying to break a metal that looked like a rocket, adding that person also sustained injury at the time.
The witness said the blast severed the head of the deceased, adding that they must have brought the rocket from somewhere, just as multiple sources in the community said the incident happened on Thursday.
Penpushing further reports that another witness Shehu Idris, a resident explained that the second blast occurred around 5:00 p.m, adding that the incident razed a house close to the scavenging site.
The resident of the area said more people were injured during the second blast, and estimated the number of injured victims at eight, adding that the injured victims have been taken to a hospital in the area
Penpushing also reports that in videos of the incident circulated online, two items suspected to be rocket-propelled grenades could be seen at the scavenging site, while as at the time of filing this report Police operatives and firefighters had been deployed to the scene to douse tension in the community.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hudeyin, was yet to issue any official statement on the incident as at the time of filing this report
