RUNAWAY KIDNAP GANG LEADER RESPONSIBLE FOR ABDUCTION OF SENATOR ANISULOWO SHOT DEAD IN ANOTHER OPERATION
It would be recalled that, Iyabo Anisulowo was kidnapped some months ago in Yewa axis of Ogun State, while on her way home from the farm, and was in captivity for weeks, before she was rescued by combined team of police and security operatives.
The Commissioner of Police who paraded the corpse of the gang leader to journalists at Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, alongside two other suspected gang members, Ali Mohammed and Audu Isa explained that, police thwarted the plot of the gang following intelligence report.
“On the 12th of July 2018,intelligence revealed that some armed bandits who are specialist in kidnapping and armed robbery whose operation cut across the Northern and Southern parts of the country have arrived the state’, Iliyasu said.
The police boss said on getting the intelligence he mandated the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad(FSARS) under the command of Uba Adams to track, trail and round up the hoodlums, adding that in compliance with the directive the operatives technically trailed the bandits and accosted them in Abeokuta before they ever got to their targeted victims
He added further, ’their targets in Ogun State are two businessmen, namely Alhaji Shehu and Alhaji Kabiru, they planned to either rob or kidnap them for ransom. On sighting the policemen, they engaged them in gun battle, but later subjected to the superior fire power of the police’.
The Commissioner said, at the end of the gun battle, one of the suspects was shot dead, as well as arrest of other, and subsequent recovery of exhibits which include seven AK47 riffles, two pump action guns, seven magazines and 110 rounds of live cartridges
He disclosed that the arrested suspects have given useful information to the police, on their various intent, escapades and planned operations, adding that they also confessed on interrogation to have involved in series of robbery and kidnapping operations in several states
‘This is a signal to others in their shoes that, Ogun State is not and will never be a place where they can fester or hibernate as our operatives are working round the clock to wade off such criminal elements. This command is resolute and determine to flush out any unscrupulous element out of the state in order to ensure that the good people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed’.
