Road crash: Five die in Fidiwo axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway
An auto crash which occurred in Fidiwo axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday has claimed lives of five persons, as well as four sustained injuries with both the dead and survivors taken to Victory Hospital Ogere and FOS morgue Ipara respectively.
Penpushing reports that the Chief Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC),Ogun State Command Florence Okpe who confirmed the incident in a statement explained that the crash involved two vehicles
The statement added that the vehicles were a Prime bus red colour with registration number MUS 191HA and Cammry gold colour with registration number AKD 754BG, stressing that probale causes of the crash speed with burst tyre
‘Command carried out rescue operation on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around FIDIWO bridge at about 1448hrs . The crash involved 09 persons ( 06 female adult and 03 male adult) and a total of 04 persons were injured while 05 persons lost their lives from the crash ( 03 female adult and 02 male adult)’, Okpe said
‘02 vehicles were involved with registration numbers MUS191HA a Prime bus red colour and a Toyota Camry car AKD754BG gold colour. Probable causes of the crash were wonderful overtaking, Speed and Tyre bust which led to lose of control and veer – off the road. The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Isara’, she said
Penpushing further reports that the statement said the Sector Commander Anthony Uga reiterated on speed violation among motorists being observed that speed has been a major cause of road traffic crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The Sector Commander opined that driver should not turn the Highway to a race course because the roads are in good condition, and equally advised motorists to have a change of attitude towards driving in order to save lives, as he commiserated with the family of the crash victims.
