RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST EMERGENCE OF CONTROVERSIAL TRADITIONAL RULER IN OLORUNDA COMMUNITY
The placards have inscriptions such as ‘Segun Philip Ogunsola go back to your town’, ‘Oba Alake don’t impose for us’, say no to government if you want peace’, ‘say no to violence, we want Imala’, If you don’t do our wish, watch out’.
Penpushing further reports that, the aggrieved protesters in a peaceful manner asked the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs in the State to remove Ogunsola from office with immediate effect.
The Odofin of the Community, Olabode who led his kinsmen on the protest said, they were aggrieved because the embattled monarch was imposed on them by a first class monarch whose jurisdiction is not within the Olorunda territory.
Penpushing also reports that, Olabode declared that, the parents of the controversial monarch were tenants to Kesan Orile who owns the Olorunda land and Aragba village where the embattled monarch and his families hailed from.
The community chief also alleged that, the State Government in collaboration with some traditional rulers who are not within the Olorunda jurisdiction illegally sacked the former Baale to install Ogunsola.
“Olorunda community already has a Baale who has been duly installed by the appropriate traditional ruler and Omola of Imala has been recognized by the Local Government and the State Government since 2006. He is Chief Adegbola, a bonafide son of Kesan who owns Olorunda.
“Most of the lands at Olorunda belong to his family. As a result of Government intervention and decision, he was forced to remove the signboard he erected as the Baale about three years ago.We now wonder why someone can approve somebody who is not a Baale to be upgraded as a coronet Oba where he is not entitled’, the protesters said.
“This must be a miscarriage of justice which must not happen in a civilized State where the Government is totally against corruption and injustice. We therefore call on Ogun State Government and our out-going Governor in particular not to approve Segun Ogunsola Philips to be a coronet Oba for Olorunda. The entire Imalaland will never tolerate such illegal action” he said.
