Released end bad governance protesters arrive Presidential Villa
The 114 protesters of the end bad governance majority of them minors who were discharged by the court on Tuesday over treason charges against them have been received at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
Penpushing reports that the Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, will on behalf of the Nigerian government hand them over to the Governors of their states, while as at the time of filing this report the Governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani, and his Kano state counterpart, Abba Yusuf were on ground.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, the Deputy State President, Barau Jibrin, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi. as well as Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu were also present.
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that President Bola Tinubu had ordered the release of the protesters on Monday following the widespread outrage over the treatment of the minors among them.
The trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwatu, had earlier struck out the case after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), M.D. Abubakar, announced the withdrawal of the case in response to public outrage.
Penpushing also reports that the Attorney-General of the Federation’s in exercising power under section 174 of the Nigerian constitution first announced taking over the case from the police before applying for its withdrawal on Tuesday, while the defence lawyers did not oppose the application.
