Recalcitrant motorcyclist killed in Abuja downpour
A 31-year-old motorcyclist identified as Yakubu Lucky, who defiled warning and drove into a pool of water has been drowned during a downpour on Friday at Dogon Gada in Lokogoma District of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Penpushing reports that the Head of Public Affairs Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Nkechi Isa, confirmed the incident in a statement adding that the deceased also navigated through the barricade placed by the agency to stop residents from going through the flooding water.
The statement said the Search and Rescue Team of Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), led by the Director of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Florence Wenegieme recovered the body of the deceased on Saturday.
Penpushing further reports that the statement added that as at the time of filing this report the body was deposited at the Asokoro District Hospital where a Doctor confirmed him dead, explaining that the family of the deceased who hailed from Zango Kataf, Kaduna State, has since taken his body away for burial.
The Acting Director-General of Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mohammed Sabo, while reacting to the development appealed to residents to always heed the warnings issued by the agency.
Penpushing also reports that Sabo emphasized that Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), always places a barricade at Dogon Gada during downpours, and urged residents not to drive into a pool of water but to wait for it to recede or seek an alternative route.
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in the statement commiserated with the family of the deceased and called on residents to always use the 112-emergency toll-free number in the event of a disaster or emergency.
