
Rainstorm destroys Ogun state school, kills student
A 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3, of Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ogun State, Timothy Amosun, has been reported dead following a rainstorm which destroyed the school.
Penpushing reports that five other pupils, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child sustained also injuries during the tragic incident, while as at the time of filing this report the injured had been transferred to hospital for adequate medications.
The Ogun state government, confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a statement, adding that the Governor had sympathised with the victims, describing the incident as a rude shock and a painful tragedy for the affected families and the community.
Penpushing further reports that the Governor in the statement by his Chief Press Secretary Lekan Adeniran, prayed God grants the family of the deceased the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.
The Governor assured the public that the state government would cover the medical expenses of those injured in the rainstorm and also directed that victim in critical condition be transferred to specialist hospitals within and outside Ogun for comprehensive medical care.
Penpushing also reports that the Governor in same vein, instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and assess the damage to facilitate the school’s reconstruction.
