Protests rock Ibadan again over cash, fuel scarcity

The Ibadan, Oyo State Capital was again on Wednesday turned to theater of protest over the scarcity of fuel and new naira notes, as the resident protesters mounted bonfires on some major roads in the ancient town.

Penpushing reports that  angered  residents troop out in hundreds  into the streets to express their annoyance, while  some of the busy roads the protest took place include Ologuneru, Sango, Eleyele, Mokola roundabout, Monatan and Iyana Church.

The said roads were blocked by the protesters, a development which led to heavy gridlocks on the roads, forcing many schools in the affected areas to close early for fear of being attacked, but armed police officers and soldiers were later deployed to the scenes to restore normalcy to the areas.

Penpushing further reports that it is recalled that a group of protesters had attacked the Governor’s office when security agencies attempted to deny them access to speak with the Governor Seyi Makinde, while record also has it that one protester was killed during a clash with security officers in the Apata area of the state capital

The Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, when contacted said normalcy had been restored to the area, as at the time of filing this report, explaining that some parts of the town were affected by the protest

“Some parts of the state capital witnessed pockets of protests over Paucity of Cash and Scarcity of fuel. However, as we speak, normalcy has since returned to these areas as the Command has taken all necessary actions to forestall the breakdown of law and order. Updates would be provided accordingly, please”, he said
