Edo state election: Obaseki emerges as consensus governorship candidate of peoples democratic party

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the governorship election in the State scheduled to hold in September.

Penpushing reports that, the announcement of Obaseki as the party flagbearer came after ratification by party delegates following the withdrawal of his main rival, Kenneth Imasuagbon, who had earlier threatened that, he would not allow Obaseki, a new entrant into the party to pick the ticket.

The emergence of Obaseki, has now made it clear that, he would be facing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is his main rival, at the forthcoming election in the state.

Penpushing reports that, as at the time of filing this report, and ahead of the poll,at least seven other parties have concluded their primaries and selected candidates for the governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary was supervised by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Zamfara and Oyo counterparts, Bello Mattawalle and Seyi Makinde.
