Police intercept truck with explosives in Oyo state
A truck conveying material suspected to be explosive devices has been intercepted by the Oyo State Police Command during a stop-and-search operation in Saki, as the command equally commenced full scale investigation.
Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, made this known in a statement explaining that the operation was intelligence-led and described it as an operational success.
The statement emphasized that the truck and the suspected materials were promptly secured and are currently in police custody, as at the time of filing this report, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Penpushing further reports that the statement stated that specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Unit were deployed to secure the items for safekeeping and forensic examination.
“Detailed forensic analysis has since commenced, alongside a thorough and robust investigation to determine the exact nature of the items and their intended use,” the statement said.
Penpushing also reports that Olayinka disclosed that the driver of the truck has been taken into custody and is cooperating fully with investigators as efforts continue to unravel all circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement equally expressed appreciation for the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his unwavering support, strategic leadership, and continued provision of operational guidance that enhance proactive and intelligence-driven policing across the country.
Penpushing reports that the command reassured the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property and urged citizens to “remain calm, as there is no cause for panic, and promised to keep the public informed as the investigations progress.
